Two kinds of furniture freight, one standard of care
Furniture Is Unforgiving Freight — It Deserves More Than a Kerbside Drop-Off

Furniture is bulky, often fragile or finished, frequently irreplaceable, and the final few metres — up a staircase, through a narrow doorway, onto a fitout floor — matter as much as the ocean crossing. A generic freight forwarder treats a sofa the same as a pallet of stock. We don't.
Seatram Logistics moves furniture for two very different kinds of client: importers bringing high-end and antique pieces in from Italy and Europe, and businesses landing commercial furniture — hospitality fitouts and office equipment — that has to arrive on schedule and go straight to installation. Both need the same thing underneath: careful packing, a freight forwarder who understands the European trade lane, in-house customs clearance, and a delivery team that finishes the job rather than dropping a crate at the kerb.
One recent example: a delicate chandelier that needed to move via air cargo, with crates exceeding standard height limits. Our white-glove packing and delivery network built custom padded crates, moved it on an air-ride tail-lift truck, and delivered direct to the installation site — undamaged and ready to place.

What we manage
Furniture Freight & Delivery Services

Custom Crating
Specialist Packing & Crating
Antiques, upholstered pieces, and finished timber or marble furniture are assessed and packed to the level the item needs, including custom crating for over-height or fragile pieces.

Italy & Worldwide
FCL & LCL Freight
Full container loads for large fitout orders, and LCL consolidation for single pieces or smaller shipments, with weekly departures from major Italian ports.

In-House Brokers
Customs Clearance
Furniture spans several HS code categories depending on material and use. Our licensed customs brokers classify and clear every shipment internally, including FTA duty preference where applicable.

Installation-Ready
White-Glove Delivery to Site
Container unpack, transport on an air-ride or tail-lift vehicle where required, delivery into the room or installation point, and debris removal. For hard-to-reach sites — narrow streets, apartment access, tight loading docks — we arrange specialised transport trucks suited to the location. Not a kerbside drop-off.

Moorebank Facility
Storage & Staged Delivery
For fitouts or projects with a fixed installation window, we hold cleared stock at our Moorebank facility and coordinate delivery to match your site schedule.

Full Visibility
Landed Cost & Duty Advice
Complete landed cost estimate — sea or air freight, destination charges, customs duties, and GST — provided at the time of quote. No hidden destination charges or unexpected extras on arrival.
Why Seatram
Why Clients Trust Seatram With Furniture Freight
We Know the European Furniture Trade Lane
Italian furniture and homewares are one of the trade lanes we handle most — from single antique pieces to container loads for retailers and fitout suppliers. We understand the export packing standards, the port options out of Genova and Livorno, and what customs will ask for on arrival.
White-Glove Isn't an Add-On, It's How We Deliver
Assembly, placement, and debris removal are part of the standard service for furniture consignments, not a premium extra. If your delivery needs to go straight into a showroom, residence, or fitout site, that's the default.
One Team, Not a Handoff Chain
Packing advice, freight booking, customs clearance, warehousing, and final delivery are managed by the same Seatram team throughout — no handing your shipment between a forwarder, a broker, and a separate delivery contractor.

Common questions
Furniture Freight Questions
How do I import furniture from Italy to Australia?
You'll need a commercial invoice, packing list, and bill of lading, plus correct HS code classification — furniture attracts different duty rates depending on material (timber, upholstered, marble, metal). We coordinate directly with Italian suppliers on export packing and documentation, book FCL or LCL depending on volume, and lodge the import entry with our in-house customs brokers on arrival, including any FTA duty preference the shipment qualifies for.
What is 'white-glove delivery' and is it really included?
White-glove delivery means the shipment is unpacked, transported on appropriate equipment (air-ride or tail-lift where needed), carried into the room or installation point rather than left at the kerb, and the packing debris is removed. For furniture and fragile pieces, this is our standard delivery method, not a paid upgrade.
Can you handle antique or high-value furniture?
Yes — this is one of our specialist areas. Antique and high-value pieces are assessed individually for packing requirements, often custom-crated, and covered by all-risk marine cargo insurance reflecting full replacement value. We've managed shipments where over-height crates required air cargo rather than standard sea freight, and coordinated the full move from origin to installation.
Do you deliver commercial furniture for fitouts and installations?
Yes. For hospitality and office fitouts we coordinate delivery timing directly with your installation team, sequencing the freight so it arrives when the site is ready rather than sitting in storage or arriving too early. This is handled the same way as our commercial equipment freight service.
What information do you need for a furniture freight quote?
Item dimensions and weight (or container volume for larger shipments), origin address, delivery address in Australia, and whether the piece needs any special handling — antique, upholstered, marble, or oversized. Photos help us assess crating and packing requirements. Send this through and we'll respond with a quote within 24 hours.
